African-American Pastor Paul Kerr insists that the few tears which drip from the eyes of a life-sized crucifix, hanging for ages in his old Gothic church, are either a diabolical human deceit or a display of Lucifer himself. Flamed by the media's unquenchable thirst for the sensational, Kerr's church quickly becomes a wealthy national shrine. But after several people die attempting to examine the long-hanging crucifix, Pastor Kerr is even more desperate to find the cause of the mysterious tears, knowing that who or what he finds might claim him as the next victim.
