This is one of the most shocking books I have ever read aside from the Bible! Though I have known the truth about Biblical marriage for many years, the fact that someone had the courage to write about it is astonishing. Because Biblical marriage is so far out of the realm of the beliefs of most people today, to be told that marriage is infinitely more than a means of sexual and emotional fulfillment or procreation will be....well, hard for most to accept. The Biblical stand on divorce will not be appreciate by modern society. I doubt that much of modern society will read it. But even within the church the significance of the marriage covenant is mostly lost. This book was very comforting to me NOT because I have a wonderful marriage and it looks like I will live happily ever after, but because I have a very difficult marriage and the threat of divorce is always looming. John Piper encouraged me to keep the permanence of marriage in mind and to stay focused on the goal of marriage....to bring glory to God and give a clear picture of Christ and the church! This Momentary Marriage is a book for everyone because it addresses the unmarried, the divorced, the remarried, and the married. It really is a must read for engaged couples!
